The Atlanta Hawks are one of the best teams in basketball and are the latest team to get in on the Ray Allen sweepstakes.

When Ray Allen was supposed to come back for a 19th season in the NBA this year, he was supposed to sign with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Yet, here we sit a week away from the NBA All-Star Game and no decision one way or the other has been made by Ray Allen.

More from Atlanta Hawks

In the meantime, teams other than the Cleveland Cavaliers have emerged as possible frontrunners to land Ray Allen if he decides to come back. The San Antonio Spurs, Dallas Mavericks and Los Angeles Clippers are still among those possible teams. We can also now add in the Atlanta Hawks to mix, thanks in large part to their surprise success this season and their potent offense they’re running with.

According to Chris Vivlamore of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the Atlanta Hawks are indeed interested in having Ray Allen join the team but talks between the two sides have not gone anywhere as nothing in imminent.

"“The Hawks have had discussions with representatives for free agent Ray Allen but nothing is imminent, according to a person familiar with the discussions.”"

Ray Allen joining the Hawks would be playing into the idea that he has been holding out most of the season in order to sign with the best tea in the league. This is assuming he’s overlooking where his best fit would be — which his still in North Ohio with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Atlanta is currently on track to win the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference and will be looking at all possible ways to  improve their tam for an inevitable postseason run. They don’t need Ray Allen, which is why it’s all the more scary to consider him on their roster.

Cleveland remains the frontrunner to land Ray Allen, but this is all assuming he even wants to come back for another season. It has been half a year of sitting for the 18-year veteran and there is no saying he won’t just stay settled in retirement and make things official by refusing to join the Hawks, Cavaliers and all others who have been phoning him up this season.
