The Indiana Pacers are not going anywhere this season, but that doesn’t mean they’re going to gut their roster and start over in 2015-16.

When the Indiana Pacers lost Paul George for the season, there was the notion that they’d gut their roster and begin the rebuilding process for when their superstar returned. That hasn’t happened yet and despite all of the rumors, it likely won’t happen.

There has bee talk go Roy Hibbert and David West being on the trade block with names like Reggie Jackson and others possibly landing in Indiana.

According to Steve Kyler from Basketball Insiders, the Indiana Pacers will work the phones at the trade deadline but it’s unlikely that they make a deal that guts their roster or gives up any sort of talent.

“They will work the process, but didn’t get the sense they were buyers,” Kyler reports. “What was said to me was team owed it to Paul George to have a competitive team when he comes back, not tear it down.”

If the Pacers make a trade, it could be to get rid of players like Luis Scola or George Hill but even those trades make little sense. Indiana is suffering through a lost season but that hardly means they need to rebuild. After all, they have a roster that made it to back-to-back Eastern Conference Finals and that’s something you can’t just sneeze at.

Paul George coming back will markedly improve the Pacers overall, and the front office is wise to hold off on gutting the roster unless the perfect deal presents itself.
