The Detroit Pistons are looking for a point guard addition and reports are stating that Denver Nuggets’ point guard Ty Lawson could be an option.

Ty Lawson has been one of the NBA’s best point guards for quite some time, but the Denver Nuggets’ lack of success could have made him available on the trade market. The February 19th trading deadline is coming up quickly and there are plenty of teams looking to make a move.

More from Denver Nuggets

One team that could have interest in acquiring Lawson, is the Detroit Pistons. They lost Brandon Jennings to a torn Achilles recently and are in major need of adding another point guard if they are going to make a run at the playoffs. Adding Lawson would be a huge move for the Pistons, but it wouldn’t come without a cost.

So far through the first 50 games that Lawson has played this season, he has averaged 16.6 points, 9.9 assists and 3.2 rebounds per game. He has shot 44.2 percent from the field overall and 36.1 percent from behind the three-point arc

If Lawson was acquired by the Pistons, he would be in a much better situation long-term. Detroit has put together a lot of talent and Stan Van Gundy is getting the most out of them. Lawson would add the playmaking point guard and scorer that they need and could be the missing piece that could help them into the playoffs.

At just 27 years of age, there is still plenty of good basketball left in Lawson. Detroit could sign him to a long-term extension if they wanted and he would be an upgrade over Jennings.

That being said, all of this would depend on how much the Nuggets are asking for in return for him. They aren’t going to move him unless they get a very competitive offer.

There is no question that the trade deadline is going to be busy this year, especially with all of the rumors that are already flying around. It will be very intriguing to see which players end up moving, but simply hearing names like Lawson being available shows how busy it could get.

Don’t expect the Nuggets to end up dealing Lawson unless a team is willing to give up picks or young talent. Brian Shaw wants a new start for Denver and moving Lawson would be about as close to a fresh start as they could get. Needless to say, this is intriguing news whether he ends up getting traded or not.
