Nationals to give out Jayson Werth Chia Pets
The Nationals’ bearded outfielder will have his own Chia Pet next season
Last year the Washington Nationals handed out Jayson Werth gnomes and it was a huge success. The gnomes are currently selling for over $100 on markets like eBay.

With the popularity of the gnome, the Nationals will now be giving away Jayson Werth Chia Pets.
One of the best things in sports are the promotional schedules. Teams from all sports every year have hand outs for fans attending games. With baseball having more games, they tend to have more giveaways and are forced to be creative with the amount they have.
One of the classic trends in giveaways are bobbleheads and gnomes.
Now, the Nationals are taking it to another level with their Jayson Werth Chia Pets.
Werth, much like the gnome made in his image last year, is perfect for a Chia Pet with his signature beard.
In an interview with the Washington Post, Valerie Camillo, the chief revenue and marketing officer for the Nationals discussed the idea behind the Werth Chia Pet.
"“The gnome was so fantastic, and we felt like we had to push the envelope,” (chief revenue and marketing officer Valerie) Camillo said. “We were just thinking of something creative that people would get into. and Jayson is such a personality and lends himself so well to this sort of promotional fun, probably better than the average player….The first time that was mentioned, it was like ‘Yeah, that’s it.’ Then it was a matter of please don’t let it be too expensive.”"
The Werth Chia Pets will be handed out on August 5, when the Nationals take on the Arizona Diamondbacks. Much like other teams have been giving away gnomes, if the Werth Chia Pet is just as popular as its predecessor, it won’t be surprising to see other teams make Chia Pets after their own bearded players.
