The Chicago Bulls are serious contenders for center Kendrick Perkins.

The NBA Trade Deadline was today at 3 PM ET and there were a bevy of trades that will change the landscape of the rest of the NBA season.

Earlier today, Kendrick Perkins was traded to the Utah Jazz in a deal where the Oklahoma City Thunder made an upgrade at the center position and brought in Enes Kanter. However, since Perkins is in the last year of his contract, the Jazz will have to pay the rest of his $9,154,342 contract.

CBSSports.com was the first to report the news of Perkins. Considering that the Jazz are in a rebuild, it’s no surprise that the Jazz plan on buying out Perkins’ contract.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo.com, one team who has emerged as the main suitor for Perkins is the Chicago Bulls.

Considering that the Bulls do not have that much talent in the frontcourt behind Joakim Noah, Pau Gasol, and Taj Gibson, it’s no surprise that the Bulls are in fact going after the 2008 NBA champion. Perkins not only brings an extra dimension on defense, but he is a seasoned veteran that has been around the league since 2003.

The Bulls have championship aspirations and for teams to win it all, they need to have a solid bench. With players like Aaron Brooks, Tony Snell, and Gibson, the Bulls have an excellent bench. However, adding a player like Perkins to team up with Gibson in the frontcourt makes all the sense in the world. Gibson is already a stud on the defensive side of the ball.

With Perkins next to him, they would become one of the best defensive frontcourts in all of basketball. Bringing in a guy like Perkins would immediately improve this team. Chicago’s strong-suit is defense and Perkins has the ability to improve the Bulls’ defense, even if he is a half-year rental.
