The NBA trade deadline is approaching and the Sacramento Kings are still trying to dangle rookie Nik Stauskas for help in their frontcourt.

It’s really hard to peg what the Sacramento Kings are doing or to gauge the trajectory that they’re on but one thing is clear — they are a mess. The team has been rebuilding for years now and nothing seems to be going right outside of DeMarcus Cousins.

But there is hope that the team can get things figured out now that Cousins is an All-Star talent, they have a new head coach in George Karl and may finally have a semi-bright future. However, there are still scars to be worn in Sacramento and the dangling of rookie Nik Stauskas is among those scars.

It’s not that he’s being dangled that is bad for the Kings, it’s that he’s being dangled as a rookie in a year where Sacramento spent a lottery pick on him.

That’s where the sour grapes come into play, as the team is already bailing on a kid they didn’t have to take if they didn’t want. But rather than cut bait, the Kings are shopping Stauskas to try and get some desperately needed help at power forward.

That’s going to be easier said than done, but Stauskas is a true talent on the rise and he has enormous trade value for a player of his experience. Teams would be trading for the potential with Stauskas and that potential is pretty high.

The only question is what can Sacramento expect to get in return for their rookie, as there may not be a market for him at the moment and a trade involving the young star may have to wait until other bigger trades are either broken or completed.
