A look at the result from Gennady Golovkin vs Martin Murray on Saturday night in Monet Carlo
Saturday night in Monte Carlo the world would once again be treated to the greatness that is Gennady ‘GGG’ Golovkin, as he took on Martin Murray in search of an astonishing 19th knockout in a row. At 31-0 in his professional career, Golovkin has taken the boxing world by storm, and on Saturday night he kept that streak alive, although it wasn’t nearly as easy as in fights past.
Murray actually made it to the 11th round, despite the beating that he had taken throughout most of the fight. The referee stepped in and stopped the bout early in the 11th to give GGG his 19th consecutive KO.
In the fifth round of the bout, Golovkin really started to get his flow going, nailing a nice body shot to Murray that put him right on the canvas. Murray had done a good job to this point of staying away from the power of Golovkin, maybe even winning a round or two, but it was as if this was inevitable.
That was then followed up by another shot that put Murray down, but he answered the ref at the count of 7 and decided to continue on.
Despite that rough stretch, though, Murray was able to come back somewhat and hold his own. Still, as time went on, though, it was evident that this needed to be stopped, and it was no more evident than with what happened in the 10th…
Golovkin now moves to 32-0 in his career with 29 KO.
