The Texas Rangers will be without their top prospect for the second time in as many years.

It was announced Monday that infielder Jurickson Profar will miss the 2015 season after undergoing surgery for his right shoulder. He missed the entire 2014 season for the same injury. Widely regarded as a top prospect, Profar will spend his second year in a row on the sidelines.

It was reported last week that Profar was throwing from 105 feet without discomfort. However, an MRI showed damage to the subscapularis muscle in Profar’s right shoulder and surgery would be required.

In his last-played season, 2013, he recorded 67 hits in 286 at bats (.234) with six home runs and 26 RBI. As a 20 year old, he showed promise at the plate with his patience.

There have been reports that Profar could return very late into the season, but that is a very unlikely option. As a result, Rougned Odor will take the reigns over at second base. He played the position last year while Profar was out.

Odor played well in 2014. In 114 games, he recorded 100 hits, nine home runs, 48 RBI and a .259/.297/.402 line. Playing a position with little value, fantasy owners can wait very late to draft their second baseman in Odor.

There is a lot of variation with his ADP among the sites. I am leaning towards NFBC and Fantasy Pros Composite more than the others. He will be a starting second baseman in a nice lineup. Batting at the No. 9 spot with the power hitters following him will increase his fantasy value.

He has the potential to be a five-category player, which is a rare breed in fantasy. He will be a very sought-after sleeper second baseman come draft day.
