Wednesday’s game will go on, but those unable to make it will receive refunds.

The city of Atlanta is expected to be hit with a winter storm tonight. Temperatures are in the low 30s and the area is prepared to be hit by about 3-5 inches of snow in this winter storm, or as Chicagoans call it, April.

In all seriousness, southern cities like Atlanta simply aren’t equipped to handle snow given how infrequently it falls, and tonight’s snowfall is already causing problems on the roads in Georgia.

The Atlanta Hawks play the Dallas Mavericks tonight at home, and while the game is not cancelled, the team has announced that anyone who is unable to make it to the game due to the snow will be issued a full refund.

The Hawks’ full press release reads as follows:

"Tonight’s 7:30p game versus the Dallas Mavericks will be played as scheduled. We advise that all fans take caution if proceeding to Philips Arena tonight and where possible, take MARTA to the arena. The game will be broadcast on television on SportSouth and on radio on 92.9 The Game. Fans with any questions pertaining to tonight’s game are encouraged to call Philips Arena at (404) 878-3000.For fans who already have purchased tickets but are unable to attend the game tonight, tickets purchased through the Atlanta Hawks official channels including the ticket office or any Ticketmaster channel can be returned for a refund through the original point of purchase. All refunds must be requested by Friday, Feb. 27th at 5pm."

Last year, the Atlanta area was hit with a similar snowstorm that ended up paralyzing the city, with no one able to use the roads. This year, they have plans to try to avoid a similar situation.

So anyone who wants to see the first-place Hawks in action should be very careful, and anyone who doesn’t think they can or should go can get a refund, and just be thankful they live somewhere this isn’t the norm.

So while we sympathize with you, Georgia residents, don’t blame those of us who live in the north for scoffing when we hear the phrase “state of emergency” used to describe three inches of snow. When the temperature gets into the 30s up here, we stop wearing coats and bask in the sunshine.
