The Arizona Cardinals released defensive tackle Darnell Dockett Friday after he spent 11 years with the team after being a third round selection in the 2004 NFL Draft to the Cardinals. Now, Darnell Dockett has some option weighing to do, he can go out into the market now and see if any teams bite to give him the deal he’s looking for, or he can go back and sign with Arizona, who is still interested in the 6’4, 290 pound defensive lineman, for less money.

Darnell Dockett was expected to make $6.8 million with Arizona this year, which would have made him one of the highest paid players on the Cardinals squad. And while he turns 34 in May and is coming off of a season where he sat out due to an ACL injury, the Cardinals don’t want to spend that much money for the risk involved.

There are many teams in the NFL currently shopping for a player like Dockett. Dockett is a quicker defensive tackle who can get to the passer and make big tackles as well. The three-time Pro Bowler, while late in his career, still has big ambitions and wants to be the comeback player of the year this next season.

While there are a lot of teams that come to mind for Dockett, six teams really stand out.

But first, honorable mentions include the Dallas Cowboys, Pittsburgh Steelers, San Fransisco 49ers, Jacksonville Jaguars and Detroit Lions. The first three because of cap space and unneeded risks and the Jaguars because they don’t need a tackle they need an outside pass rusher who they’ll get in the draft. Lastly, the Lions because I’m pretty confident they’re going to get a franchise tag on Ndamukong Suh and they won’t need Dockett, but they may need him if they don’t get Suh.
