The Cleveland Cavaliers’ latest pickup is only signed for the rest of this season

The Cleveland Cavaliers have spent the entire season furthering the depth on their team around the trio of LeBron James, Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love. They’ve acquired Timofey Mozgov, J.R. Smith and Iman Shumpert during the season to add to the depth on the roster as the Cavaliers make a championship run in the Eastern Conference.

This past week, the team added Kendrick Perkins to the roster.

Adding Perkins for his defensive basketball IQ and rim protection was a move many around the league felt further solidified the Cavaliers’ chances to win their first NBA Championship.

Perkins also provides yet another veteran voice in a locker room full of players intent on winning a title this season.

With plenty of big names and veterans on the roster, the Cavaliers well over the cap. Their newest addition, Perkins, is only signed for the remainder of the season according to Basketball Insiders.

Perkins is on the hook for the remainder of the year for $274,573.

If James opts into his contract next season as expected, and the Cavaliers re-sign Kevin Love, they will be back up against the cap again and that could make it difficult to re-sign Perkins and other key vets.

Still, when a team boasts a roster with LeBron James, veterans and other players will want to play for the Cavaliers to have a chance at winning a championship. The Cavaliers will obviously cross that bridge in regards to contracts when it arrives in the offseason.

The Cavaliers have been one of the hottest teams in the NBA lately, having won 18 of their past 20 games.

Will their recent additions put them over the top and bring Cleveland its first NBA Championship?
