The Cleveland Cavaliers were once frontrunners to land Ray Allen, but the veteran reportedly will not be signing with the team this season — if ever.

Although nothing is yet official at this point, but the future of Ray Allen that once involved the Cleveland Cavaliers now no longer involves LeBron James’ team.

It has yet to be determined whether Ray Allen will play basketball at all this season, but the decision has apparently ben made from one side or the other that the Cavaliers are not a part of this conversation anymore. No matter what Ray Allen decides to do this season, it appears he will not be playing with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Brian Windhorst from ESPN.com has reported that every indication he’s been given from the situation pushes him towards the conclusion that Ray Allen will not be signing with the Cleveland Cavaliers if he even decides to play at all in 2014-15.

This ends months of speculation over whether the Cavaliers would sign Ray Allen, despite being frontrunners to land him. If the Cavaliers, who were favored to sign him, are out of the running then that likely means Ray Allen is going to stay retired.

Allen has gone almost an entire year without playing basketball, and he seems to be settled into his retirement. That’s not to say he won’t come out of retirement in the right situation, but that situation just won’t be in Cleveland with the Cavaliers.

Then again, the Warriors, Grizzlies, Spurs and Hawks could use Ray Allen this year. Each of those teams have been in on conversations about the guard and all are fits should he decide to sign with any one of them.

Still, it appears that Ray Allen is settled in retirement and a half-season with the Cleveland Cavaliers seems out of the question.
