The Panthers are going to let the defensive end walk in free agency

It appears the Carolina Panthers will be moving on from defensive end Greg Hardy when free agency begins in March. It is unclear at the time if Hardy will be suspended or not after spending last season on the exempt list for domestic abuse charges.

After initially being convicted, the charges against Hardy were dropped on appeal. The Panthers, however, are looking for a fresh start and are willing to accept a 2016 compensatory pick, according to Bill Voth of the Black and Blue Review.

All week Hardy has been retweeting fans on Twitter that want the big man back on the physical Carolina defense.

However, it appears despite the fact that Hardy may want to come back, it won’t be happening and he will have to look for work somewhere else.

If Hardy is cleared to play right away next season, he will certainly be a valuable pickup for whoever gets his services.

Hardy played only one game for Carolina in 2014 before being shelved for the year while his case was ongoing. In his last full season in 2013, Hardy had 15 sacks for Carolina and was a nightmare for opposing quarterbacks.

Hardy is only 26 and has plenty of football ahead of him, but with the league’s recent stance against domestic abuse, it will be interesting to see what teams look to take a chance on the defensive end.

There’s plenty of teams around the league that need someone to rush the passer and pick up sacks.

Still, when free agency hits March 10, teams will probably wait to see what the league rules on Hardy before throwing a bunch of money at him.

He just won’t be getting paid by Carolina next year.
