Yoenis Cespedes told reporters Sunday that he wants to look into a long-term deal with the Detroit Tigers

The Detroit Tigers made a huge trade for former Oakland Athletics and Boston Red Sox outfielder Yoenis Cespedes in December in exchange for pitcher Rick Porcello. Now, as spring training has begun, Cespedes is comfortable and looking for a long-term deal with Detroit.

Yoenis Cespedes told Detroit Free Press reporter Anthony Fenech that he would like to be in a Tigers uniform for years to come as he has already adjusted to the change and is happy.

Cespedes, who is from Cuba, talked to reporters through a translator Sunday but said he doesn’t know if his agent and the Tigers have talked about a contract extension yet.

Yoenis Cespedes won his second straight Home Run Derby last season when he was an All Star with the Oakland Athletics. Cespedes was dealt to the Boston Red Sox for pitcher Jon Lester (now with the Chicago Cubs) after batting .256 with the team and hitting 17 home runs in 101 games in 2014. With Boston, Cespedes played the rest of his 51 games in the season batting .269 and five home runs.

Cespedes isn’t just known for batting, as he is one of the top outfielders in the league with his cannon for an arm that threw out several players at the plate from deep in the outfield last season.

The 29-year-old is signed with Detroit through 2015, and the Tigers will likely make a move to extend his contract. He joined a Tigers team that already has a plethora of big hitters with Miguel Cabrera, Victor Martinez, Ian Kinsler, J.D. Martinez and more as they look to make a push to win their first World Series since 1984.

Detroit has made two World Series appearances in the last decade and lost in 2006 to the St. Louis Cardinals and in 2012 where they fell to the San Fransisco Giants.

Expect the contract talks between Detroit and Cespedes to increase as Spring Training moves on as they look to nab the All-Star for years to come.
