The Detroit Lions made the decision today to re-sign Dan Orlovsky to a one year contract.

The Detroit Lions made a move to solidify their quarterback depth this season by re-signing Dan Orlovsky to a one year deal.  Orlovsky a Connecticut native and University of Connecticut alumni, is known best as the starting quarterback for seven games of the 2008, winless Detroit Lions.

Orlovsky who didn’t see a snap last year as a member of the Lions released statements through the Lion’s website on his role with the team, “I don’t think you can underestimate the value of it”, Orlovsky continued “There is an enormous value in being a good teammate.  It’s important for me to understand my role.  I talk to the younger guys.  I talk to the defense and offer them a nugget here and there.  Over 16 games, if one or two players can make a play here and there, that’s the difference between going on and going home”.

Orlovsky has put together a solid career over all as a ten year journeyman backup quarterback.  Other than the 2008 season with the Lions.  Orlovsky also started 8 games for the 2011 Indianapolis Colts, once Peyton Manning was deemed done for the season.

Another notable play in Orlovsky’s career came against the Minnesota Vikings in week 6 of the 2008 season, where Orlovsky ran out of the back of his own end zone resulting in a safety.  The play occurred while Orlovsky was scrambling to his right while pinned deep in his own territory.

Orlovsky’s career numbers include in 21 games played, 2,931 passing yards, 14 passing touchdowns, and 12 interceptions, and has a career 76 quarterback rating.

Third-string quarterback Kellen Moore, isn’t expected to be retained by the Detroit Lions, as they will look for at least one more quarterback to add to their roster this coming season.
