San Francisco 49ers to make Darnell Dockett an offer
By Ryan Ratty
Darnell Dockett is close to a deal with the San Francisco 49ers.
For the past ten years, Darnell Dockett has wreaked havoc in the NFC West playing for the Arizona Cardinals. However, the Cardinals cut him last week and Dockett wasted no time finding a new team, as many teams were interested in his services as Adam Schefter reported.
The San Francisco 49ers obviously know Dockett very well given their years of playing against him and with Justin Smith likely to retire, it’s a known fact that the 49ers need to bring in a defensive tackle. Well, it looks as if they are close to getting their guy, as reports are stating that the 49ers are in talks to sign Dockett.
According to Mike Jurecki, the Niners are closing in on Dockett and they have already made him an offer. He has also passed his physical, just another example that talks are heating up.

In San Francisco’s 3-4 defensive scheme, Dockett, if he signs with the 49ers, will have the ability to play either defensive tackle or defensive end. Signing Dockett makes sense in so many ways for the San Francisco.
Firstly, Dockett will be 34 years old when the 2015 NFL season rolls around. That being said, the 49ers likely will get two to three years out of him, if he signs. They also have young, inexperienced pass rushers in Tank Carradine and Aaron Lynch. With Dockett, the 49ers would get basically a stopgap player while the coaching staff coaches up Carradine and Lynch.
Dockett would also be a mentor to these players as well as the rest of this defensive line. Jim Tomsula loves his defensive linemen and while he doesn’t get a ton of recognition, Tomsula and the 49ers would be getting one of the better defensive linemen in all of football in Dockett.
