The New York Post is having a field day roasting Alex Rodriguez and their latest headline is as ridiculous as it is hilarious.

It took about 18 months for former New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez to get back on the field, and when he finally did, he’s more or less lost his position. He played at DH in Wednesday’s MLB spring training game between the Yankees and the Phillies at Steinbrenner Field.

He went 1 for 2 with a walk before leaving the game in the sixth inning. He received cheers when he left, in contrast to his mixed early greeting.

On Thursday, the New York Post roasted A-Rod on the front of their paper:

Note the reference to the juice, because obviously that single would have been a homer with PEDs, but now that he’s been brought down to Earth, all he can manage are singles. At least, according to the Post.

“I was happy I just made contact, and I was pleasantly surprised it was a base hit,” Rodriguez said of his first plate appearance of the spring. “I was a little nervous. I told [plate umpire Marty Foster] to take it easy on the old man — it’s been a long time since I’ve been in the box.” (via ESPN New York)

The last time A-Rod had a hit was in 2013, the eight inning of a game between the Yankees and Giants at Yankee Stadium.

A-Rod batted second in the Yankees lineup on Wednesday and lined the third pitch from Phillies right-hander Kevin Slowey into left field for a base hit. He was on an 0-2 count when he saw the 89 mph fastball, after two swinging strikes.

Previously greeted with a healthy mix of boos and cheers when he was introduced and then first walked to the plate, the crowd gave him a more positive reaction when he ended up at first base. His second at-bat was less productive, ending with a ground-out to short.

In his third at-bat, he was a little more patient, managing to work a 3-2 walk from Phillies pitcher Ethan Martin. At that point, A-Rod was removed from the game in favor of a pinch runner and headed back to the dugout to another ovation.
