Gareth Bale nearly scores game tying goal from mid-field (Video)

Real Madrid’s Gareth Bale almost had the goal of the year from mid-field.
Real Madrid find themselves down a goal to Athletic Bilbao after a beautiful cross and header.
They spent the better part of the second half knocking on the door and putting the pressure on Bilbao to try and get the elusive game-tying goal. They even arguably got a little bit desperate as they tried some rather tricky plays. Gareth Bale got the ball along the far touchline near midfield and looked like he was sending in a long cross to Mexican forward Chicharito. Instead, he tried to capitalize on the Bilbao goalkeeper being off his line and away from the goal and sent a long ball towards the goal. The good news for Real Madrid is that Bale read the situation correctly, but the bad news is he was inches from scoring and found the post instead.
Had Bale scored, that surely would’ve been a goal of the year candidate and we’re a little over two months into the calendar year.
It would’ve also salvaged a point in a tight race for the La Liga title atop the table.
