According to reports, Mark Sanchez is heading back to Philadelphia

Mark Sanchez will be one of the more highly sought after free agent backup quarterbacks once free agency begins. It appears other teams interested in bringing him won’t have a chance, as Sanchez is returning to be the Eagles backup quarterback according to reports.

After Nick Foles went down with a season-ending injury in 2014, Sanchez took over the starting quarterback position for the Eagles. While the Eagles just missed the playoffs, Sanchez helped lead them to a 10-win season and showed he can be one of the better backup quarterbacks in the league.

According to Ian Rapoport, Sanchez will be staying put and returning to Philly.

After a tumultuous ending with the New York Jets, Sanchez was able to restore his value in Chip Kelly’s system. In nine games for the Eagles in 2014, Sanchez threw for 2,418 yards with a modest 14 touchdowns to 11 interceptions ratio.

The Eagles have been one of the most active teams during the legal tampering window before the start of free agency when players can officially sign with teams on Tuesday.

The Eagles have recently traded LeSean McCoy to Buffalo for Kiko Alonso. The team also reportedly has deals in place with cornerback Byron Maxwell and running back Frank Gore. They have also been making a push to retain receiver Jeremy Maclin and have also been linked to Patriots free-agent safety Devin McCourty.

Re-signing Sanchez provides some stability to the quarterback position for Philadelphia. With Nick Foles coming back after a broken collarbone, the team needs a steady backup to step up just in case.

According to Adam Schefter, Sanchez will be returning to the Eagles on a two-year deal with a max value of $16 million.

Not a bad contract at all for the backup quarterback.
