As DeMarco Murray was visiting Philadelphia, the Eagles are expected to sign the NFL running back to a $42 million deal.

As if the Philadelphia Eagles couldn’t make anymore headlines this offseason, they have, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter the team is about to sign running back DeMarco Murray to a five-year, $42 million deal with $21 million guaranteed.

DeMarco Murray was the NFL’s leading rusher with the Dallas Cowboys last season when he rushed for 1,845 yards and 13 touchdowns on his way to becoming the highest-profiled offensive free agent this offseason. When Dallas could only offer Murray a spot if he took a pay cut, Murray looked to free agency especially teams like the Eagles, Oakland Raiders and Jacksonville Jaguars.

After the Philadelphia Eagles traded their best player, running back LeSean McCoy to the Buffalo Bills, it was clear they were going to fill the running back hole, but that spot was filled twice, before deals fell through. Before free agency began on Tuesday, the Eagles were reportedly set to sign former San Francisco 49ers running back Frank Gore, but he signed with the Colts on Tuesday.

Then, on Wednesday, the Eagles made a deal with former San Diego Chargers running back Ryan Mathews, but the contract was never signed, and he was seen leaving the Eagles practice facility about an hour before Murray’s deal was reportedly complete.

The Eagles have released veteran linebacker Trent Cole, lost free agent wide receiver Jeremy Maclin and lost free agent safety Nate Allen. But, the Eagles have also acquired former Seahawks cornerback Byron Maxwell as well as traded quarterback Nick Foles to St. Louis for quarterback Sam Bradford, who helped recruit his former Oklahoma teammate DeMarco Murray to the team.

Chip Kelly’s moves don’t exactly make complete sense, but along with some questionable moves, he’s added some great talent.
