Report: Ben Roethlisberger signs a 5-year, $99 million deal with Steelers
By Andrew Ross
It was reported yesterday that the Pittsburgh Steelers wrapped up their star quarterback Ben Roethlisberger with a new contract, and now the details of said deal are finally out.
The Pittsburgh Steelers agreed to a contract extension with Ben Roethlisberger yesterday.
Even though the team and Roethlisberger had a press conference and all for the new deal, the details of the contract weren’t released until today.
As Ian Rapoport said, this is a huge deal. Making $99 million over five years puts Roethlisberger right above Peyton Manning and makes him the fifth-highest paid quarterback at an average salary of $19.8 million per year.

That’s a big difference than the $11.6 million he was scheduled to make this year (the final season in his contract before this extension).
As of now there are no details as to how he can escalate the deal to be worth $108 million, but it would be safe to assume it would be based around his team’s success – just like Manning can earn back the $4 million he just cut off his salary if the Denver Broncos win the Super Bowl this year.
There are also no details on the guaranteed money (which is what really matters, right?), but it will probably be somewhere in the $40 million range.
Roethlisberger wasn’t technically in a contract year last season, but he definitely played like it. Big Ben arguably had his best season ever as he had a career-best year statistically with 4,952 yards while completing 67.1 percent of his passes, 32 touchdowns and only nine interceptions.
This deal should lock up Roethlisberger to be with the Steelers for the remainder of his career, and Pittsburgh’s offense is in good hands with him, Antonio Brown and LeVeon Bell.
Pittsburgh will try to replicate last season where they made the playoffs for the first time since 2011 (when Tim Tebow devastated them).
