The Dallas Cowboys will reportedly target a running back early in the draft, but the question is who will they be taking and where?

The Dallas Cowboys had one of the best offenses in the NFL last year and the main reason why was because of their vaunted offensive line.

Led by three All-Pros in Tyron Smith, Travis Frederick, and Zack Martin, the Cowboys were able to move the football up and down the field.

Because of their offensive line, DeMarco Murray was able to thrive and cash in on a huge deal as well. Murray ran the football 392 times for 1,845 yards and 13 touchdowns, and even though he performed better in 2015, the money Murray commanded was too much for the Cowboys and that led to him signing with the Philadelphia Eagles in free agency.

With Murray gone, the Cowboys have four running backs in Darren McFadden, Joseph Randle, Lance Dunbar, and Ryan Williams. Those running backs make up a nice committee, but ESPN Dallas’ Todd Archer believes that the Cowboys will target a running back in the first two rounds of the draft.

"Running back will be in the mix in the first two rounds if not the first three. They need defensive help at every level at this point, so you’ll see them look heavy at defense, but they need a runner too. At least at this point they do. Heck, I wouldn’t rule out another offensive lineman either."

Even though the Cowboys recently signed McFadden, going after a running back makes sense. If the Cowboys do in fact draft a running back early, some options that make sense are Melvin Gordon, Todd Gurley, and perhaps even Duke Johnson. It may surprise a lot of people, but it does make some sense for the Cowboys to draft a running back early.
