Fantasy Impact: Reggie Bush Signs With The 49ers
By Bruce Matson
Reggie Bush signs with the San Francisco 49ers, where he will share the backfield with running back Carlos Hyde. Last season, Bush rushed for 297 yards and 2 TDs while hauling in 40 receptions for 253 yards. Reggie is a 30 year old running back, and the question about him is how much does he have left in his tank? How much will he see the field, since the 49ers are invested in Carlos Hyde?

Reggie Bush RB San Francisco 49ers
This could be Bush’s last opportunity to be relevant in the NFL. He is hitting that golden age for running backs, and he could fall off a cliff within a year or two. Bush is going to be used as the change of pace passing down back, and will play second fiddle to Carlos Hyde. Bush should only have value in PPR leagues because he’s going to be used as a passing down specialist.
In redraft, Bush is going to serve as a handcuff to Carlos Hyde and should be drafted in the later rounds. In dynasty, Bush is a dinosaur that holds little to no trade value. Bush is also valued as a handcuff to Hyde for contending teams in dynasty. With Bush signing with the 49ers, rebuilding teams will have one last chance to sell Bush to get compensation to use to build for the future.
Carlos Hyde RB San Francisco 49ers
Hyde is the running back to own in this backfield. Hyde is a 3-down back that is a very powerful and explosive downhill runner. In redraft he’s going to go in the early rounds, and he should produce high end RB2 to low end RB1 numbers next year. Reggie Bush might take away some receptions and vulture a few touchdowns, but Hyde is the man in San Francisco.
Hyde is 23 years old and will be a long term asset in dynasty. Hyde is worth a mid-late 1st round rookie pick this year. Hyde is a good fit for both contending and rebuilding teams because he’s young and he’s going to produce this year. Hyde could be a buy right now because his value could be deflated due to Bush being signed. It depends on the Hyde owner, but if you like him, now would be a good chance to try and buy him.
