NFL will pain the ’50’s’ on all fields gold to celebrate the NFL’s 50-year anniversary
The NFL will paint every ’50’ on all NFL fields gold to celebrate the 50-year anniversary of the merger between the NFL and the AFL.
It’s the golden anniversary for the National Football League.
50 years ago, on June 8, 1966, the National Football League and the American Football League merged to create one huge professional football league and became the National Football League that we all are familiar with today.
In honor of the 50-year anniversary of the merger between the NFL and the AFL, the NFL will be painting every ’50’ on all NFL fields gold, according to Marc Sessler.
At the very beginning of the merger, the two leagues still stayed separate with separate schedules, but the NFL champion would play the AFL champion at the end of the year to determine the overall champion.

In 1970, they finally merged schedules, but kept separate conferences, becoming the National Football Conference and the American Football Conference.
At first, the AFL opposed the merger, saying that the merger would benefit more from the merger than the AFL would. The AFL was showing that they were just as good as the NFL teams and they were starting to really take some market share away from the NFL. However, the NFL still had superior television and radio contracts that would give the AFL teams more exposure.
Of course, the NFL teams dominated at the beginning of the merger, but the AFL teams eventually caught up. Today, the NFL has become one of the biggest professional sports leagues in the world, with amazing talent and great parody throughout the league.
The NFL has a lot to celebrate over the last 50 years, and there will most likely be several events during the NFL season to celebrate the 50-year anniversary. The first of which being the gold ’50’s’ on each NFL field.
