Calder Trophy

The race for the Calder Trophy was a runaway in the first half of the season with Nashville’s Filip Forsberg an All-Star who was leading the league in plus-minus for a large chunk of the first half. But as Forsberg began to fade in the second half and Calgary’s Johnny Gaudreau was a consistent force on the ice, he overtook Forsberg and is my pick to win the rookie of the year.

Gaudreau is second to Forsberg among rookies with 20 goals and leads rookies with 37 assists and 57 points. Since the All-Star Game, Gaudreau has 22 points in 26 games and has been one of the main reasons why the Flames have stayed in the playoff picture and sit in third place in the Pacific division, ahead of the Los Angeles Kings and San Jose Sharks.

He is projected to score 64 points this year, which would be one more than last year’s winner, Nathan MacKinnon, and the most by a Calder winner since Patrick Kane scored 72 for the Chicago Blackhawks in 2007-2008.
. Left Wing. Calgary Flames. Johnny Gaudreau. 1. player. 112
