Byron Scott keeps trolling the world, this time claiming that the Los Angeles Lakers are a free agent destination in 2016.

Quick, someone please check Byron Scott for a concussion — or worse brain damage. For some reason, it appears that Scott is under the impression that the Los Angeles Lakers are a free agent destination this summer, and he’s sticking to his guns on that assertion.

In the latest installment of What stupid thing did Byron Scott say now?, we look to an interview Scott did with the Los Angeles Daily News’ Mark Medina, as reported by USA Today’s For the Win.

"“You have a lot of free agents out there who would love to play for us. They’ve been making it pretty clear.”"

Pause. If that were all Scott said we could just pass him off for ignorant or disillusioned. Unfortunately, he kept talking.

"“You have guys coming by the bench saying ‘Hey coach, I would love to be in L.A. next year.’ That makes you feel good there are players out there who want to be here.”"

If Scott would have stopped here, we could have concluded that maybe he’s attempting to pass off some smoke and make people think the Lakers will be a player in free agency this offseason, when they’re really aiming to rebuild through the draft.

But again, frustratingly, he continued. “I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that we’re taking it in a different direction. They know this organization and the history of this organization is going to be back.”

Scott has always seemed like a nice guy. It’s difficult to look at him and imagine him a liar or demented. Yet it seems we are now out of choices. He apparently forgets that his Lakers team is 20-53. 20-53! This season is going down as possibly the worst in Lakers franchise history.

Players in today’s NBA respond to winning. That’s what they want. Sure if all else is equal, money or weather or franchise history may play into the decision. But winning is most important.

If Scott is not demented, lying or just ignorant, it’s the greatest troll job ever. This follows many other outlandish comments throughout the season, none of which (perhaps until now) surpasses his preseason comments that the 3-point shot is a bad shot, despite the fact the other 29 NBA teams are moving more and more toward to a “3 or layup” offense, and wanted to shoot no more than 15 a game.

Scott may fall into dumb luck, though, as his team is in prime position to gain a top-three pick in the upcoming NBA draft, and will have Julius Randle healthy next year–presumably.
