Manny Pacquiao-Floyd Mayweather fight will cost $99 on PPV
By Ernie Padaon
The Manny Pacquiao-Floyd Mayweather fight is expected to cost a record-high $99 on pay-per-view.
The fight that we all have been waiting for is right around the corner. We have been waiting to see Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather get in that ring and it will happen in less than a month. The ticket prices to be in the MGM Grand are selling for unworldly prices. The cheapest ticket is around $1500. They are expected to make $74 million at the gate for the event with the tickets ranging from $1500 to $10000. That $74 million is almost 3-times the previous record. If you don’t have that kind of coin to get into the fight, then you will likely want to do the Pay-Per-View option.

The fight is expected to be sold for $99 for high-definition and can also be purchased for $89 for standard definition on pay-per-view. Both of those prices are record highs, but after all the hype and anticipation, the fans are expected to pay the bill. The previous record high for a pay-per-view event was when Floyd Mayweather fought Canelo Alvarez in September 2013. That fight was priced at $74.95 for high-definition and $64.95 for standard edition. That fight set records for both pay-per-view revenue ($152 million) and total revenue ($200 million). The record for most pay-per-view purchases (2.5 million) was set for the fight between Mayweather and Oscar De La Hoya in May 2007.
The Mayweather-Pacquiao fight is expected to shatter those numbers. People have been waiting for this fight for a long, long time. The fans will do whatever they can to see the fight. This will be one of the biggest sporting events of the year. Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao have kept people waiting long enough. The promoters won’t have to do much to get people to watch this event. The fans have been waiting.
This will be a huge payday for both boxers. The two are expected to split the earnings 60-40 with Mayweather getting the larger chunk. The payout is expected to be around $150 million for Mayweather and $100 million for Manny. That number can bloat even further depending on the number of pay-per-view purchases that are made. Mayweather’s paycheck will represent the highest yearly earnings for an athlete ever, breaking Tiger Woods’ record of an inflation-adjusted $125 million in 2008. Mayweather will earn his with 36 minutes in the ring.
There is a lot of money that will be going into the hands of Mayweather and Pacquiao at the end of this fight. Hopefully they will be able to provide a show for all of us.
