With the hiring of Shaka Smart as the head coach of the Texas basketball program, the puns with he and football coach Charlie Strong have already begun

On Thursday night the huge news broke that the University of Texas had found their new head basketball coach after they parted ways with Rick Barnes after 17 seasons, and that man was none other than Shaka Smart.

Now of course, anyone with a functioning brain could already figure out that with Charlie Strong already heading up the football program, the new school athletic slogan was right there for everyone to see.

“Smart, Strong. Texas.”

It’s obvious, but not bad either. That being said, it’s a potential marketing gold mine and people are already starting to cash in.

It didn’t take long for a t-shirt to pop up baring the slogan.


Hey, you have to take your marketing opportunities when you can get them and this was put right into peoples’ laps with the hire.

Texas was able to pry away Smart from VCU after he spent six seasons there and built one of the more successful programs of the last decade. In 2011, he led the school on an improbable Final Four run.
