Duke’s Amile Jefferson scores two points for the wrong team (Video)

Duke big man Amile Jefferson tipped in a bucket for Michigan State while trying to get a rebound.

Scoring on the wrong basket is one of the most embarrassing things that can happen to a basketball player. Unfortunately for the Duke Blue Devils big man, Amile Jefferson, it happened on college basketball’s biggest stage- the Final Four.

That’s right. In an attempt to get a rebound after Michigan State‘s forward, Branden Dawson, missed a layup, Jefferson accidentally tipped in a bucket scoring two points for the Spartans. What horrible luck.

Michigan State, being the undersized team in this match up, will have to fight for every rebound if they plan on making this a close game at all. That’s exactly what Branden Dawson did and it ended up working out in his favor. Even if he did get a little lucky that Jefferson decided to help out Michigan State with a free two points.

But if you look at the way Jefferson plays for Duke, this type of thing is bound to happen. A true hustle player, Jefferson isn’t afraid to get his hands a little dirty and go after loose balls. So it isn’t that big of a surprise that one of the many loose balls he goes after didn’t bounce his way. Unfortunately, this one bounced in the Michigan State hoop.

Still, Jefferson’s play style takes away from the embarrassment of scoring in the wrong basket a little bit. But if Michigan State ends up winning by two points, I’m sure the young man will go back to this play and hang his head.

Before halftime, Michigan State trails Duke. Tom Izzo better get his guys ready to go in the second half if they plan on meeting the winner of tonight’s game (Kentucky vs. Wisconsin) on Monday.
