Ole Miss commit and top quarterback recruit Shea Patterson breaks his little brother’s finger while playing a simple game of catch.
Shea Patterson is already a Louisiana football legend in the making.
The junior quarterback from Calvary Baptist Academy in Shreveport is the top prospect in the state, the No. 3 overall player in the country and already has two state championships under his belt entering his senior season.
The Ole Miss commit appears to have accidentally added another interesting chapter to his story this week that should erase any doubt about his arm strength.
Shea and his little brother Nick were playing catch on the Calvary Baptist football field following one of his baseball games, and apparently Shea’s throwing velocity is still in midseason form in April. Shea let one fly to his little brother towards the end of the session and, unfortunately, the end result was a broken finger for Nick.
"“It was one of my last throws of the night,” Shea told the Shreveport Times. “I was rolling out on about an 18-yard comeback, and it just went through his hands. It was pretty funny to me up until he pulled off his glove.”"

Although this a painful story for Nick at the time, I am confident the brothers will look back and laugh one day at one of the funnier stories of a growing Louisiana high school football legend.
Patterson choose Ole Miss over staying in-state at LSU, a decision that saddened many Louisiana football fans, but was a much better fit for himself. The elite quarterback prospect will have the chance to step in and lead the Rebels from Day 1.
If his high school resume is any indicator, it is going to be an exciting couple of years in Oxford, Miss.
Will Patterson be the savior that Ole Miss football fans have been searching for to end their 52-year SEC Championship drought, or will he fall just short as so many have over the years?
All I know is that he has all the tools to be the Rebels’ best quarterback since Archie Manning. If he can translate his skills to the next level, he could go down as an all-time SEC great that finally put Ole Miss football back on the map.
That being said, he has an extremely tough road ahead in the toughest conference in football, and many great prospects have been thrown to the fire and lost in the shuffle. Shea’s track record, along with his apparent cannon of an arm make me believe this will not be the case.
Before we anoint him the next great college quarterback, however, he does have one more high school season left to play, as well as a third-straight state championship to try and bring back to Calvary.
