This is the first year that every played on Duke were born after Christian Laettner’s shot in 1992.

If you want a stat that will make you feel old, check this out.

This is the first year that none of the players on Duke’s roster were born before  “the shot” by Christian Laettner. The historic buzzer beater came during the Elite 8 in the 1992 NCAA tournament. None of Duke’s players could have even watched the iconic moment in Duke history.

Probably for the better. Duke has been holding onto that memory for the majority of the last two decades, it is probably time to start making some new memories.

The oldest player on the Duke roster this year is Marshall Plumlee who was born in July of 1992. So his older brothers probably ended up sharing stories of the game-winner once he got of age. But even Plumlee, now just 22, wasn’t alive to see the shot himself.

To make basketball fans feel even older, the youngest person on the roster is Tyus Jones who was born on May 10, 1996. That means Jones, the starting point guard, was barely alive long enough to see Michael Jordan win three of his six championships.

As young as they may be, the Duke Blue Devils are in the national championship game and are facing off against a seasoned Wisconsin Badgers team. Wisconsin’s two stars, Frank Kaminsky and Sam Dekker are upper class men and probably won’t get another chance at a national title (considering they both end up declaring for the NBA draft).
