Undefeated boxing champion Floyd Mayweather is the top-paid athlete across all sports, with a $25,000 mouthpiece symbolizing his love for flashiness and money.

Floyd Mayweather is no stranger to questionable purchases, and his affinity for bling has emerged through his customized mouthpieces, priced at $25,000 each.

Why on earth would someone pay $25,000 for a mouthpiece? Well for a man who brought in over $100 million in earnings in 2014 despite no endorsements or sponsorships, that is barely a drop in the bucket.

"“My career’s gone on 19 years and I’ve been able to preserve my smile,” Mayweather told TMZ."

Mayweather has never been shy, and his newest piece of bling symbolizes this perfectly. In addition to the obvious diamond encrusting, the mouthguard feature both gold flakes and $100 bills stuffed inside his grill-protector.

Of all the outlandish athlete purchases, this might take the cake, topping J.R. Smith’s purchase of a $450,000 armored truck in 2013. Fortunately for Mayweather, he should have the money to foot the bill for the foreseeable future.

Renowned mouthpiece specialist and New York City based dentist Dr. Lee Gause customizes these pieces of bling for the boxer, with the gold flakes, diamonds and $100 bills separating him from other clients.

The biggest issue for Mayweather will be how long his fast-paced and high-priced lifestyle will last before catching up to him. He has at least one more big payday coming on May 2nd from his long-awaited bout with Manny Pacquiao, but after that his financial future appears unclear.

Mayweather’s questionable public image, stemming from several allegations and one conviction for domestic violence, has possibly led to his lack of sponsorships in recent years. While this could hurt the financial future of the man nicknamed “Money” in the long run, it appears that Mayweather has enough assets to survive on when the income runs out.

Among his high-priced purchases include real estate and cars, with a $300,000 customized Mercedes-Benz party bus which Mayweather calls his “land yacht” being the latest purchase. These might be flashy purchases on the surface but at least they have some return value.

As the 38-year old “Money” Mayweather heads towards retirement, he will have to cut back some on his outlandish spending in the near future if he does not want to be the next high-profile athlete to go broke. For the time being, however, his payday coming from the highest-priced boxing bout in history should be enough to allow Floyd to continue his purchases of $25,000 mouth guards leading up to the fight.
