The Turkish Football Federation have decided to suspend all soccer games for one week as a result of the gunshots directed at a team bus

Following the horrible incident involving the Fenerbahce team bus on Saturday, everyone knew there had to be some repercussions for soccer in Turkey but no one knew what they might be. As the team bus was leaving an away game to go the airport, a gunman opened fire through the front windscreen of the bus.

No players were hurt, but the driver of the bus was shot and rushed to the hospital. Thankfully he did not succumb to his injuries and is now in a stable condition.

Fenerbahce striker Emmanuel Emenike had this to say on thee horrifying situation he and his team mates were thrust in to following their game with Traabzonspor.

"“when we saw blood and the shattered driver’s side window, it quickly turned into a scary moment for everyone on the bus.”"

It was truly a terrifying moment that sent shock waves across the world, and the Turkish Football Federation has today taken action against what they believe to be a terrorist attack against Turkish sport and not just the team on the bus. Sports minister Akif Cagatay Kilic had this to say following the federations decision to suspend all Turkish soccer for one week.

"“We think it’s unavoidable to suspend the league until this dark attack is enlightened.”"

No fan likes when their sport of interest is postponed or cancelled, but I think everyone involved with Turkish soccer should be able to understand the gravity of the situation and come together as a community of supporters. There is no room for such acts in sport or any realm of the world, and hopefully the issue gets solved so we don’t see gruesome incidents such as this one again.
