Atlanta Hawks sign young fan with Leukemia to a one-day contract
Hawks provide nice gesture for eight-year-old Lake Bozeman, a fan with Leukemia
The Atlanta Hawks have signed Lake Bowman, an eight-year-old fan who has Leukemia, to a one-day contract with the team.
Lake was one of 14 children chosen to go on a trip to Disney World by Bert’s Big Adventure, a local charity for children with serious illnesses. Lake suffers from Acute Myeloid Leukemia, a type of bone marrow cancer. Lake wasn’t able to go on the trip, so the Hawks took matters into their own hands, inviting him to sign a one-day contract and spend some time with the team.
The Hawks surprised Lake at home yesterday, pulling up in an Atlanta Hawks bus to whisk him away and tell him about the contract.
Other than the ceremonial contract, Lake and his family got a tour of the team’s locker room and were on the court for warmups for Tuesday’s game against the Phoenix Suns. They also sat courtside for the game.
Here’s the contract itself:

Lake became something of a celebrity at the game–even Dominique Wilkins was asking for his autograph:
This is a great story, and kudos to the Hawks for making a kid’s dreams come true. Hopefully Lake had the time of his life.
