Michigan State students plan to repaint the campus rock in honor of the one year passing of Princess Lacey.

If you followed Michigan State basketball in the past year or so, you would know of the story of Princess Lacey Holsworth, a young friend of Adreian Payne.

The young girl was a neuroblastoma patient who was given little time to live because of her condition which made her weak and frail. The Spartans’ superstar took her under his wing and became somewhat of a big brother to her, texting her before and after every game as she wished him luck and asked him to play well for her.

Following the 2013-14 season, Payne appeared in the college basketball slam dunk contest as she sat courtside, cheering him on. She passed away just a few short days later, but her legacy lives on.

Tom Izzo and many basketball players, including Payne, paid a visit to the painting of the campus rock a year ago to honor the young angel and the coach gave an incredible speech in Lacey’s name.

The Rock gets painted over daily with campus events and announcements, but Lacey’s honoring stayed on The Rock for nearly a week before getting painted over.

In honor of her one year passing, The Rock in the middle of Michigan State’s campus will be painted once again to honor the fallen cancer patient.

Students are encouraged to stop by The Rock and sign it like they did last year on Wednesday afternoon.
