Sometimes the rules are the rules, even if they are a little strange. Wednesday night, Jimmy Butler was on the wrong end of a strange rule the NBA has.

With the Bulls facing off against the Magic in a close one, Bulls guard Jimmy Butler made an impressive dunk.
Unfortunately for Butler, he was called for a technical after his showcase of offensive prowess.
Off a beautiful feed from teammate and point guard Aaron Brooks, Butler went up for a big two handed slam.
Butler however, held on the rim for what was deemed two long and slapped the backboard before receiving a technical foul from the game’s officiating staff.
It’s one of the stranger rules in the game, and Butler didn’t really hang on the rim too long as he positioned himself to drop down.
By the definition of the rule, he was up there just a second too long and in return, the Magic were awarded a free throw for the play.
The NBA probably doesn’t want players hanging their full weight on rims and causing a delay in action, but there has to be a better way to address it than giving a technical.
The game is full of impressive slams that are worthy of some exaggeration after the fact. Wednesday night, Butler was reprimanded for his big dunk against the Magic.
