Los Angeles Angels sell the cheapest beer in the MLB
Sporting events are notorious for overpriced alcoholic beverages, but the Angels are out to set a new trend, selling 16 oz. servings of draft beer for just $4.50.
There is nothing quite like enjoying a cold beer at a baseball game on a hot summer day. Unfortunately, jacked up prices of concessions across the board have left many fans leaving sporting events with their wallets empty.
That will not be the case if you attend a Los Angeles Angels game, however. The team with the eighth highest payroll in baseball at just over $146 million is not looking to make its money back at the concession stands, at least not in beer sales. Fans at Angels stadium will be able to treat themselves to 16 ounces of draft beer for $4.50, an unprecedented 28 cents per ounce.
Historic Fenway Park and Wrigley Field are the most expensive ballparks to grab a cold beer at, selling small draft beers for 65 cents and 50 cents per ounce, respectively. The pricing decision makes sense the more you look into it. After all, Boston sports fans are notorious for being heavy drinkers, so I am assuming the Red Sox have no problem with beer sales. Though those prices aren’t as nostalgic as those older parks.
As for Chicago Cubs enthusiasts, we all know how badly they need their booze as they enter year 106 of their World Series championship drought. Just a few things that have occurred since the Cubs last championship to truly symbolize how long the wait has been: Wrigley Field was built and became the oldest stadium in the National League, Chicago broadcasting legend Harry Caray was born and died and the NFL, NHL and NBA were formed, with Chicago teams bringing home championships in all three. Needless to say I doubt the Cubs struggle with alcohol sales either.
As for the Angels, they are doing their fans a huge favor, and taking their chances that the southern California heat keeps sending fans back to the concession stands for more ice cold alcoholic refreshments. The cheapest beer in baseball along with the bright future of Mike Trout give Angels fans plenty of reasons to make their way out to Anaheim for a game.
Hopefully more MLB teams, as well as organizations in other professional leagues take notice and make beer consumption much more affordable heading forward. As a whole, draft beer prices around the league are down by an average of 11 cents this year, a promising sign for fans of beer and baseball everywhere.
