The Masters: One Direction’s Niall Horan to caddie for Rory McIlroy
By Kris Whelan
Rory McIlroy has surprised a lot of people by choosing Niall Horan as his caddie for the par 3 contest
The Masters officially kicks off tomorrow, but the practice rounds have been going on all week and continue today along with the Par 3 competition. The par 3 contest is one of the many magical elements that create an unrivaled golfing atmosphere at August National Golf Course.
Make no mistake that these golfers are probably under the most pressure imaginable, millions of people are watching around the world and this is the major competition that everyone wants to win. So the Par 3 competition is a nice release for the athletes as they can relax and have fun in an easy going contest.
The contest is made up of 9 holes with a total par of 27, so it’s pretty fun and not intense at all. The golfers use this contest to have fun, usually having members of their family as their caddies for the day. You can literally select anyone as your caddie, and Rory McIlroy has taken that to heart with his choice.
Last year the world number 1 had tennis ace and fiancee at the time Caroline Wozniaki as his right hand man. (Woman). McIlroy has since broken up with Wozniaki so everyone was very curious as to who would be his caddie for this years 9 rounds of fun.
Well it turns out that One Direction’s Niall Horan has landed the lucky gig, much to the surprise of everyone around the world. The Irish boyband member is said to be a keen golfer and apparently has a friendship with the best golfer in the world. As an Irishman I can confirm that our nation is a small one, so it’s not surprising that the celebrities of our land have taken to one another. (Even though Rory is technically Northern Irish)
Niall Horan and fellow band mates hit the headlines after Zane Malik left the band due to stress and has vowed never to return. One Directioners around the world were heartbroken, while everyone over the age of 12 couldn’t care a less. Regardless of their ridiculously generic music, Horan seems like a fun and charismatic character so he will probably turn out to be a great choice for McIlroy’s caddie.
McIlroy will enjoy himself today, but the real competition starts tomorrow for the Northern Irishman. He will no doubt be looking to break his Masters duck and finally get that coveted green jacket.
