Vlade Divac is in the new directional leader for the Sacramento Kings

Rumors around the front office have been rampant the past few weeks and new information suggestions Vlade Divac is now in the drivers seat for the Sacramento Kings. One week ago the Sacramento Kings ‘lost’ one of their excutives, Chris Mullen, when he decide to coach St. John next season.

More from NBA

It would appear that this not only was a career move, but a direct reflection on the new change in power structure in Sacramento.

Chris Mullens and general Manager Pete D’allesandro were rumored by the Sacramento Bee to be against the hiring of Vlade Divac as Vice President of Basketball and Franchise Operations. After Divac was hired and Mullen departed many were wondering if general manager Pete D’Alessandro was next.

It still isn’t completely out of the question that he leaves soon, but it seems owner Vivek Ranadive is making sure he has people to make decisions when he does. Sacramento hasn’t formally anounced their new power structure or whether Pete D’allesandro is leaving, but the organization has already began the search for another front line executive to work with Divac.

It was rumored earlier this year that this problem came to a head earlier in the year when Chris Mullen refused to coach after the firing of Mike Malon. Chris Mullen had interest in coaching, but he did not want to start his coaching career with a team in the middle of the season without a training camp or a chance to assemble his own veteran coaching staff.

This is the state of the Sacramento Kings as we know them. They have the one piece that every rebuilding team is looking for. The difficulty of creating a winning team in the NBA is more complicated now than simply lucking out in the draft. It seems difficult to judge whether this season and all the up and down from the Kings has value. It will be a retrospective look that will yield that answer.

For now it seems that Owner Vivek Ranadive has a direction at which he wishes to take this team, and he is will to damn accidental success and what he has for his own vision of where this franchise should go.
