Jameis Winston isn’t ready to be an NFL player, says his own attorney
By Josh Hill
Jameis Winston is one of the most interesting prospects in the NFL Draft, but questions about his character are being dug back up thanks to his own attorney ripping his maturity.
Life has been hard for Jameis Winston these past few years, but many believe that he brought the hardships on himself. While he has been an outstanding player on the field, it’s become increasingly difficult to root for Winston thanks to his actions and behavior away from the game.

He was accused of rape in 2013, was busted for stealing crab legs in 2014 and was suspended for a game after yelling obscene things on campus. This is just the highlights of what was a rough college run for Jameis Winston and those decisions he made while at Florida State are bleeding over into his career in the NFL.
Winston is believed to be the No. 1 pick in the NFL Draft this year, but the questions about his character seems to be the only thing holding him back from being a stud prospect. Those questions are once again damning Winston’s reputation and his draft stock as even his own attorney is ripping him in a public forum.
On Friday, Winston’s attorney David Cornwell ripped his client for not being mature enough to survive in an NFL climate.
Cornwell later clarified his statement as being about Winston’s behavior off the field and not his mechanics on it. But part of being an NFL player is being able to conduct yourself away from the game. If Winston can’t do that, then by default he’s not ready to be an NFL player, even if he has the skill to perform on Sunday.
That’s been the stigma about Winston his whole career though, as he lost just one game in his college career but couldn’t win away from the field.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are expected to take him No. 1 overall, and all throughout the process there have been questions about Winston being mature enough to lead a team. Cornell’s comments are nothing new, it’s just the source from which the criticism is coming from is closer to Winston than it ever has been.
This might hurt his draft stock, but these comments are nothing we didn’t already question about Winston. It certainly doesn’t help his situation but it’s hard to say it dramatically hurt Winston’s chances to be one of the top players off the board in the NFL Draft.
