Memphis meterologist goes off on John Calipari (Video)
A Memphis meteorologist is not much a fan of John Calipari
To be fair, he’s just saying what most college basketball fans are thinking.

A meteorologist in Memphis is not happy with recent comments from Kentucky head basketball coach John Calipari. Joey Sulipeck, a meteorologist at FOX 13 in Memphis, went on an anti-Calipari rant during which he called the coach a snake oil salesman, among other things. All while wearing a bow tie.
What sparked the rant?
Following his induction into the Hall of Fame last weekend, Calipari made some comparisons between his current school (Kentucky) and his former ones (Memphis and UMass). While he gave his past schools a shout out, he didn’t exactly sing their praises:
"“I loved those places. I loved those jobs,” he said of Memphis and UMass, “but you were at the little table, you weren’t at the big table. You never got to carve the turkey. You had plastic forks and knives.”"
So, Coach Cal just compared his former coaching stints to sitting at the kids’ table on Thanksgiving? We could see how that wouldn’t go over well in Memphis.
FOX 13 Memphis proceeded to air the clip and Joey Sulipeck made his feelings known:
"“What he just said was ignorant and cheap. He’s a spin doctor. I hope somebody YouTubes this and sends it to him. That cat is a spin doctor, snake oil salesman that will turn anything in his direction.”He continued, “Say you’re at the kid table with plasic utensils? Give me a plastic utensil and walk by me, Calipari.”"
Even without his latest remarks, Calipari is not Memphis’ most beloved figure. Despite nine impressive seasons coaching the Tigers, including a run to the NCAA Championship game in 2008, Coach Cal left a bad taste in Memphis fans’ mouths. Following a Derrick Rose eligibility scandal, the NCAA forced the program to vacate all 38 wins from the 2007-08 season. Futhermore, since Cal’s departure, the program has failed to make much of a ripple.
Even if he sees the video, we doubt Calipari will dwell on it too much. After all, his Wildcats won 38 straight games this year, bowing out to Wisconsin in the Final Four, and just lost 7 players to the NBA. He has bigger things to worry about.
Luckily for Calipari, meteorologists don’t make they weather, they only predict it. But we’re guessing Sulipeck won’t be welcome in and around Lexington any time soon.
