NBAPA is going to investigate events surrounding Arrest of Thabo Sefolosha

The whirlwind of events that are surrounding the eventual arrest of Atlanta Hawks guard Thabo Sefolosha have been unclear, but recent video has shed some light. What resulted, though, was the season-ending injury of a broken fibula. For this reason, the NBAPA is going to look into the events, via ESPN:

"“The players’ union is concerned about the circumstances of Thabo Sefolosha and Pero Antic’s arrest and is doing its own investigation of the situation,” NBPA spokeswoman Tara Greco said. “The union was fully engaged in supporting all three players in court and in the precinct this week, and will continue to stay engaged as each situation evolves.”The police are facing new questions about their tactics during the incident, as Sefolosha suffered a season-ending broken fibula, which went untreated overnight and into Wednesday as Sefolosha languished in custody."

This does not bode well for NYPD, as the video does show a bit of force. Sefolosha was also reported as doing his “perp walk” with a self-made splint. This means that the NYPD knowingly denied him medical assistance after breaking his leg. The NBAPA has already sent investigators to the precinct to figure out what transpired.

More from Atlanta Hawks

This should be an easy get for NBA Players Union head Michelle Roberts, as she is a former public defender. She has also been aggressive with her defense of players in the league during her short tenure. This will be a prime situation to see just how far she goes, and I don’t doubt she will use it to set a tone for upcoming negotiations.

Besides taking shots at the media and creating an award program, we are about to see the full face of Michelle Roberts and her capabilities, if this situation is found to be the fault of the NYPD solely.
