A Dodgers’ fan was forced to wear a Diamondbacks jersey when he was watching his team play in Arizona

During the Diamondbacks home game against The LA Dodgers over the weekend, there was a strange sighting behind the home plate. A fan, seen to be wearing blue, was asked by an usher to put on a D’backs jersey, as is the policy in Arizona.

Apparently whenever you’re behind the home plate you’re expected to wear neutral colors or a D’backs shirt, and if you don’t follow the rules you’ll be asked to change. This is obviously for the benefit of people watching from home. The D’backs are clearly trying to advertise their brand and not that of their opponents.

Imagine paying a few grand to watch your team play from behind the home plate, only to be told that you have to don the opposing team’s jersey. I can’t comprehend how angry and upset I’d be if something like that happened to me. I understand that at the end of the day that Baseball is a business, but have a little bit of sentimentality, AZ!

The tickets for behind the home plate cost around $3,000, so there are people who have more money than sense and pay that kind of money to watch a very early game of the season. Don’t get me wrong,  I’m not criticizing those people, I’m sure if I was rich I would throw money at sports on a weekly basis. However, if I paid $3,000 to watch a baseball game in April you can bet that I’m gonna wear whatever I want.

Yes the stadium belongs to the D’backs and they have the right to enforce and rule they like,  but surely they should be trying to reward travelling fans who spend a fortune on tickets?

Part of the atmosphere and pageantry of professional sports is the rivalry between fans. Granted, the patron was sitting in a spot that would be picked up by TV cameras, but let’s be fair, the guy paid enough money to be given permission to sit there stark naked if he wanted to.

All the guy wanted to do was support his team on the road, and the fact that he wasn’t allowed has given me a sense of anger towards the D’backs I’ve never had before.
