New York Mets fans gave more proof on Monday that they’re terrible fans and need etiquette classes to be better human beings and not boo people from their own team or throw beer at the opponent.

Have you ever met a Mets fan who was classy, well-spoken and could hold an engaging conversation?

Chances are you are in the minority after the display Mets fans showed in their home opener on Monday afternoon. Okay, that’s a bit harsh, but the Mets didn’t present their best case for winning any “best fans in baseball” arguments today.

One of the coolest things about the home opener is when the players, coaches and trainers get introduced and can take lift their cap in appreciation of the home fans or simply lift their hand as show of gratitude.

Well, that is unless you’re the trainers for the Mets who brought the boo birds out in full force.

The Mets have been decimated by injuries, especially to pitchers with Matt Harvey missing all of last year after Tommy John surgery and Zach Wheeler undergoing the operation this year, so assistant trainer Brian Chicklo and head trainer Ray Ramirez are clearly to blame for their damaged ulnar collateral ligament, right?

Mets fans thought so who showered them with boos like they were giving away Shackburgers from Shake Shack to the loudest fan.

It’s hard to say that was an isolated incident from a few unruly fans who don’t give an accurate depiction of the Mets fan base, but I’m sure they don’t speak for every single Mets fan and they’re not all bad, sincerely.

However, there was an instance later in the game against the Philadelphia Phillies that can be blamed solely on one fan who should be booed by his own friends and fellow Mets fans for tossing a beer on Grady Sizemore like a complete dunce.

Look at the fan with a white t-shirt underneath his Mets shirt as he throws his beer through the chain link fence to soak Sizemore. I mean, that’s alcohol abuse, a waste of $10 and should have gotten the guy an ejection from the game. Further, he should have been booed louder than the Mets trainers for giving fans a black eye.

Booing players and coaches is routine. Every fan base in every sport does it. Booing trainers? It’s not the worst thing in the world, uncommon, but not downright terrible.

But throwing your beer on an opposing player is completely and utterly stupid and may God have mercy on your soul.
