Rex Ryan does not miss the Jets one bit
Buffalo Bills head coach is making it perfectly clear that he is loving his new home in upstate New York and has no remorse in leaving his former team.
Rex Ryan was a polarizing figure with the New York Jets, where he experienced instant success followed by years of constant struggles, and not shying away from the media spotlight throughout any of it. He initially became a favorite amongst fans and players alike by making the team a championship contender immediately, leading the Jets to back-to-back AFC Championship games and making the bumbling Mark Sanchez look like a rising star in the process.
However, a descent to the AFC East cellar that occurred in the blink of an eye transformed his boisterous confidence into brash arrogance, and his loudmouthed act grew weary on the fans and his players alike.
Tight end Jace Amaro is the latest member of the Jets organization to take a shot at his former coach, telling Sirius XM radio that the 2014 Jets lacked accountability, and was quite possibly a reflection of its head coach.
Ryan quickly responded to the criticism with a choice of words that was, as expected, filled with undeniable confidence, bold predictions and, of course, profanity.
"“He’s full of s— and I’ll remind him of that when we play him,” Ryan told Fox Sports. “Look, we weren’t perfect, and I never said we were going to be perfect. But that’s a f—ing b.s. comment. But, hey, he’s happy that he’s got a different coach in place. We’ll see how happy he is when I play against him.”"
Ryan is clearly not worried about his former team, and definitely not worried about Amaro. The tight end had a decent rookie campaign, finishing with 345 receiving yards and two touchdowns, but he has a long way to go to becoming a legitimate threat to opposing defense. The fact that the biggest headlines of his career have come from bashing a former coach speaks for itself.
Ryan, on the other hand, has plenty to be excited about in Buffalo. Led by high-profile trade acquisition and elite running back LeSean McCoy, the Bills will be an exciting team to watch next season, even if they are not a championship contender from Day 1.
I cannot picture a better fit than Buffalo for the outspoken head coach. He will experience nowhere near the level of constant scrutiny he face in New York, and his confident demeanor will go a long way in the Bills locker room. Doug Marrone did not exactly bring a high level of intensity to the table and it was reflected in his team’s play.
Intensity is never an issue with a Rex Ryan coached team, and with both the Jets and Bills appearing to be on the rise, the stakes of this interdivisional rivalry should definitely be amplified thanks to the arrival of Buffalo’s brash new head coach.
