Steve Spurrier joins the ranks of current and former professional athletes with terrible golf swings after his performance at the RBC Heritage pro-am.

If you have ever seen your grandpa trip over his shoe laces, then you have seen Steve Spurrier’s golf swing. Someone really needs to show the South Carolina head coach to the self-help section of his local bookstore and get him reading up on how to golf, because this just looks painful.

If one were to judge Spurrier’s golf train-wreck on solely the backswing then they would assume his follow through would be decent. Unfortunately his follow through looks more like an acl tear waiting to happen. After hitting the ball, Spurrier locks his front leg, which causes his body to slump forward. It looks like he is about to fall face first onto the ground when he finishes his swing. I’m no Tiger Woods, but I’m pretty sure golfers are supposed to stay standing after a swing.

Spurrier is not the first high profile athlete to have an awful golf swing. Charles Barkley may have the worst golf swing of all time. The only other place I have seen a swing like Barkley’s was when I accidentally spilled a full beer on a bar’s Golden Tee Golf arcade game which caused the golfer to swing at the ball four times before hitting the ball into a sand trap. Soon after that the machine crapped out and I ran home before they could charge me for a new arcade machine.

New Orleans Pelicans’ Tyreke Evans, also resides in the ranks of athletes with awful golf swings. His approach to golf includes a 360-degree swing style that concludes with missing the golf ball entirely. It seems his swing is modeled after the punting style of Peanuts Comic’s Charlie Brown.

I would say these athletes should stick to the sports that made them famous but it is just so entertaining to watch them try and hit a golf ball so to them I say: GOLF ON!
