Is Britt McHenry’s suspension long enough?
By Ernie Padaon
ESPN reporter Britt McHenry has been suspended for 1-week after a video of her going off a parking lot attendant went viral. Was the suspension long enough?
ESPN reporter Britt McHenry went off on a parking lot attendant after McHenry’s car was towed away. McHenry made fun of the parking attendant’s education and her weight and and she flaunted that she was on TV. McHenry has been suspended by ESPN for 1 week for her outburst on the attendant.
Here is the video from the incident:
Was a 1-week suspension long enough for McHenry?
Because she is a television personality and anything that she does that is not on ESPN still reflects back on her company, she has to be a little more slower to speak. If she were just an employee of a bank then all this would have gone unnoticed, but because she is on TV and probably because she flaunted that she was on TV, this thing got posted on the web and went viral for the world to see.
The actual posting of the video for the world to see is a punishment for McHenry in itself. How did someone post that for all the world to see? How did the company allow that? Now everyone thinks that McHenry is a huge brat and likely will think that every time that they see her on the TV screen. I don’t know how that video got posted from the towing company, but that seems like something that has to be looked into.
As far as McHenry’s actions, what do you expect in that situation? Have you ever had your car towed? I am not talking about getting it towed because you got a flat tire or something. I am talking about getting the car towed because you parked in the wrong spot and they lifted your car. You come out and your car is GONE. It is an awful feeling and curse words will start flying. It doesn’t bring out the best of anyone and this company took advantage of it and shared the video for everyone to see. I am sure that the car attendant has been called even worse names in the past. That seems to go with that type of job.
It is stupid that ESPN has to throw down an actual suspension for this event, but a 1-week suspension is plenty of time. I am not agreeing with the actions of McHenry, but she shouldn’t lose her job over it. How much longer of a suspension does she need? She will take that week off and then continue on with what she does.
