Chicago Cubs fans decided to give Kris Bryant a standing ovation before his first ever at-bat, which was a three-pitch strike out.

The Friendly Confines are alive on a beautiful Friday afternoon in Chicago as Cubs rookie Kris Bryant makes his Major League Baseball debut. The rookie was stellar during Spring Training, which made the decision to send him to the minors to start the season rather baffling.

The Chicago Cubs brought him up on April 17th for his first game in the big leagues because of injury, or so they say. Not that other clause that gives them another year on his contract.

Needless to say, Cubs fans are ecstatic about his debut and it has become the hot topic in the city. He is so wildly popular before ever playing in the big leagues, that Cubs fans greeted him with a standing ovation before his first at-bat.

This is why the Cubs usually start prospects on the road, because their fan base puts all these expectations and weight on their shoulders.

And how does he reward their blind faith in him? He strikes out on 3 pitches.

But it’s ok, he turned a double play later so all is forgiven.

Then he’d get up to plate again later and look like he was going to strike out again, he was able to make his second appearance at the plate last a little bit longer, but the result was the same.

Could it be first-day jitters sure? Could it be the Cubs fans treating him like the savior for a franchise that has failed to win a championship in over 100 years before ever playing for them? Probably has a lot to do with it.
