Dallas Cowboys website mentions Adrian Peterson
By Will Osgood
The Dallas Cowboys’ website mentioned Adrian Peterson as a possible suitor for the reinstated All-Pro running back on Thursday.
The NFL announced on Thursday that All-Pro running back Adrian Peterson, suspended by the NFL for most of the 2014 season due to his indictment for child abuse, would be reinstated Friday.
His likely reinstatement has been one of the key talking points of the NFL offseason to date. It was really only a matter of time before it was officially announced. In the aforementioned article linked at the top here, Josh Criswell notes that the NFL’s decision came at the right time as teams finalize their draft boards for the first-year player draft which commences on April 30.

Criswell also notes that the Dallas Cowboys have long been suitors of Peterson, and admirers from afar. Jerry Jones almost drew tampering charges for his stated love affair of Peterson.
They have wisely held off this offseason, fearing they would surely draw tampering charges this time around if they were to make their interest known. But that didn’t stop the Cowboys website from positing about the potential marriage.
First things first, the Cowboys’ website is the official website of the Dallas Cowboys. It should be noted, however, that they are not considered affiliated with the team in the kind of way that could indict the Cowboys for tampering.
Rob Phillips, the writer of that article, is a journalist, not a team official. He does not officially represent the Cowboys. Sure there is a bit of a fuzzy line when we begin speaking about beat reporters and the like who cover a given team.
But again, Phillips is not a Cowboys official. He may technically fall under the Cowboys’ payroll, but the NFL does not consider him a Cowboys employee, at least not in the same sense that it does Jerry Jones or Jason Garrett.
Other than mentioning some of the Cowboys’ actions in the past two offseasons, as well as their altered plan of attack on the field last season, Phillips did not use any evidence that the Cowboys are in fact interested in bringing in Peterson.
There are no Jerry Jones quotes, nor thoughts from Garrett. So even if Phillips were a team employee capable of being held accountable for his words to the extent that the Cowboys could have tampering charges thrown against them, nothing in Phillips’ column would levy that necessary.
The Cowboys may be interested in the six-time All-Pro running back to replace the departed DeMarco Murray. Thus far, though, they have been wise to avoid discussing it outside the walls of their offices.
