The Los Angeles Angels have reportedly been interested in trading Josh Hamilton. Does his house for sale in California have anything to do with a possible trade?

Josh Hamilton’s dispute with the Los Angeles Angels has been widely-publicized and it seems like trading the former MVP is the next move on the list of things to do for the organization.

After a drug relapse this offseason, the third relapse of his career, the Angels have been hesitant to add the slugger back to the roster and have him join his teammates. Both Hamilton and the Angels are on opposite sides of this issue and it looks like neither one is nearing a resolution any time soon.

According to Ken Rosenthal, the team is open to exploring options for the slugger, including a trade or even a buyout.

It would be hard to believe a buyout is in order with that much money still owed to Hamilton. If anything happens, it seems like the team could trade him for some prospects and maybe even some cash, but it will be hard to find a team willing to put that much money on the payroll.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Hamilton recently put his Newport, Calif., mansion on the market for $16.5 million. While this might seem like a story about the crazy price for an athlete’s mansion, it’s more about whether or not it has anything to do with the fact he may be on his way out of Los Angeles.

The Angels and Hamilton have been talking for the past couple of weeks as the 33-year-old has been on the disabled list, but this seems like a drastic move for a guy who has no idea what his future holds with three years left on his contract with LA.

Could this property for sale mean that he’s heading out and already knows his fate or does it mean that he’s just looking to relocate because his view of the mountains from his backyard just isn’t cutting it?

I would guess that Hamilton is looking to sell just in case he is traded. I mean, $16.5 million is a steep price to pay for a home and it might take a while to get some offers.
